The Holy Name Cathedral, one of the most iconic churches in downtown Chicago and also on the National Register of Historic Places, was host to Manisha & Ronnie’s urban Chicago wedding and we were so excited for the opportunity to photograph here. Home to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago, the Holy Name Cathedral has a rich history throughout its 137 years, building from the ashes of the Chicago Fire, deflecting gunfire from the North Side Gang, and hosting Pope John Paul II with prayer and music.
Inside the massive bronze doors of the Cathedral, parishioners and guests are treated to a dazzling display of architecture and artwork. The Resurrection Crucifix, hanging against the intricate wood ceiling, provides blessings upon the bride and groom below. The imposing granite altar with bronze accents is a meaningful and historical place to exchange vows. Not one, but two grand pipe organs fill the cathedral to the rafters with beautiful melodies to celebrate the happy union of the couple.
We’ve heard Holy Name Cathedral be described as ‘The Vatican of Chicago’ and although we’ve never been to Rome, we’re sure Holy Name Cathedral makes the perfect Windy City counterpart. We absolutely love this venue and we hope to bring Joshua Albanese Photography back again soon!
